Murphy Insurance was established in Sterling in 1959 by Alvin Murphy. Over the next several decades he was able to enjoy the success of his growing agency. During the 1980s, two of Alvin’s sons, Derrel & Lenny, joined the agency. With Alvin deciding it was finally time to retire in 1998, Derrel & Lenny purchased the agency and worked side by side until Lenny’s untimely death in 2003. In 2007, Derrel’s son, Ryan Murphy joined the agency. Ryan became a 10% owner in 2008 and purchased the agency from his father in October of 2019. Today, Ryan and his other agent Sue McDaniel who has been with the agency for 30+ years still provide the same personable client-agent relationship that Alvin started in 1959.
